Story
Piper was found on the streets of Puerto Rico with her siblings. Now she is ready for a family to spoil her! Piper is very laid back for a puppy. She can be shy at times. She is crate trained, housebroken, spayed and up to date on all vaccines. Piper is looking for an understanding family to give her the love she deserves. Piper would be ok with 1 or 2 older kids in the home, but younger kids stress her out too much.

Story
Arya was rescued with her sister Adriana from the streets of Puerto Rico. She is a sweet, silly girl who wants to be a part of a family that will love her and give her the life she deserves. If you want a dog that cuddles, Arya is your girl! Message us if you would like to fill out an application! Arya does ok with older kids, but younger kids stress her out and make her nervous. P.S. We did an Embark DNA test hoping to find out her breed, only to be told she is a "Puerto Rican Village Dog."

Rescue FAQs

PAWS Wide Open Rescue was founded in 2018. We are a non-profit organization composed of 5 women that was formed in hopes of providing a refuge for neglected animals on the island of the Dominican Republic. We have also expanded our efforts to Puerto Rico, another underserved Caribbean island with a huge stray dog population. Unfortunately, the situation in the Caribbean is dire, with dogs and cats multiplying to no end. In addition, we receive dogs from VA and NC kill shelters and also network with and support other dog, cat and wildlife rescues in our area. Through donations and sponsorships each month, we can continue our life-saving mission. Please send us a message to find out ways you can help! www.facebook.com/pawswideopenrescue Adopt. Advocate. Additional adoption info

PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE US IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION. We are a small organization comprised of volunteers that all work tirelessly to find homes for the dogs in our care. Submitting an inquiry then not following through with completing the application takes our time away from the many other tasks we have. Yes, we have a lengthy application, because we want to ensure that our dogs go to the best homes possible.

Submitting an application does NOT guarantee adoption. If you apply for a certain dog but don’t get it, please understand that we may receive many applications for the same animal. We will always try to place the appropriate dog in the appropriate home.

Adoption fee is $275 (depending on expenses while in our care). We spare no expense on the care of our rescues and are looking for homes who can do the same.

Story
Meet Quinn 🐾 Calico • 1.5 Years Old • Spayed Female Quinn is a stunning calico beauty with striking markings and a quietly resilient spirit. She’s a chill, curious, independent girl who enjoys the simple pleasures—lounging in a cozy cat bed, watching birds on “cat TV,” and keeping an eye on the household from her favorite perch. Quinn absolutely adores other cats and would thrive in a home with feline companions, though she’d also be perfectly content as your solo cat. Kids and dogs are unknown, but a quieter home would suit her best. Her silly side shines during what her foster calls her “light housekeeping” routine—once she’s arranged her bed just so, she’ll give a little hiss if you dare disturb her masterpiece! Quinn LOVES being pet, brushed, and pampered by her human volunteers. The way to her heart? Churus. This lovely girl has come a long way. Quinn was found outdoors with her four tiny “YOU”-themed babies—Bronte, Blythe, Beck, and Rhys—whom she lovingly raised before they all found their forever homes. After a life spent surviving outside, she’s learning that people can be trusted, and she’s blossoming beautifully. Quinn is looking for a calm home where she can settle in at her own pace and live life on her terms. She may be shy at first, but once she feels safe, you’ll be rewarded with her quiet companionship, beautiful presence, and sweet quirks. This gorgeous mama deserves her happily ever after. ❤️ Favorite Things: Toy mice, comfy cat beds, Churus, bird-watching, and keeping a tidy nest 🧺✨

Story
Meet Mr. Charlie Bubbles! 🐾 This handsome guy is as social and friendly as they come. He LOVES belly rubs, ear scratches, catnip, and—most of all—being with his people. Expect him to follow you around the house, chatting away (he’s very vocal!) and asking for food, attention, or a good snuggle on the couch or in bed. Charlie Bubbles is a big fan of catnip toys, crinkly toys, plastic springs, and his favorite—his catnip pickle. While he’s not the biggest fan of wand toys, he’s learning to enjoy them and will happily seek out playtime with you. He isn’t a lap cat who loves being carried around, but he’s totally fine being picked up and handled. When he’s ready to get down, he’ll politely tell you with a gentle meow and a little push. Never aggressive—just a sweet, respectful boy. Charlie can be a little territorial with other cats at first, so he’d likely do best as an only cat where he can soak up all the love and attention. In return, he’ll give you endless cuddles, conversations, and companionship. 💕 📩 For adoption info and fees, please email us at billythekiddenrescue@gmail.com. ‼️ Remember: Help control the pet population—spay or neuter your pets! 💯

Story
Wasabi was trapped from an abuse case. He and his sister were saved thankfully, but many others were not as lucky. He has such a handsome face, although it usually makes him look grumpy - don’t be fooled, he’s a happy guy! When he wants pets he will meow and turn around to stick his butt out towards you - this boy loves his butt scratchies! He likes pets on his own terms, and he doesn’t like picked up. He absolutely LOVES to watch wildlife like birds and squirrels on your phone or TV, and he enjoys wand toys especially the ones with worms on the end! His current favorite sleeping spot is up high under a blanket or on the cat tree. He eats Fancy Feast gravy lovers and Purina One dry and he absolutely LOVES Churu treats! He loves other cats! He’s never been around dogs, and he’s nervous around kids. Since he’s a nervous cat, he’d do best in a quiet home with no kids or older kids who can understand his boundaries. A home with another friendly cat, probably his age or younger, would be ideal. Please see our rescue information for our adoption fees or email us at billythekiddenrescue@gmail.com. ‼️Help control the pet population - have your pets spayed or neutered! 💯

Story
Meet Drex! DOB: 5/12/25 Drex is a handsome short-haired grey swirly tabby who’s looking for a forever home with his brother, Darius—they’re a bonded pair and the best of friends. When he first came to us from Animal Control, Drex was shy and unsure of the world. With gentle love and patience, he’s blossomed into a sweet, playful boy who adores his wand toy, kitten tunnel, and crunchy catnip-flavored treats. He loves to wrestle and play hide-and-seek with his brother, and when he’s all tuckered out, you’ll find him curled up in a soft spot or snuggling with Darius. Drex is wonderful with other cats and has been living happily with children in his foster home. While he may still be a little shy at first and sometimes gives a soft hiss when he’s unsure, he is never aggressive—just a gentle soul finding his confidence. Once he warms up, Drex loves chest scratches, snuggles, and even being held like a baby. If you’re looking for a pair of playful, affectionate kittens who will bring both laughter and love into your home, Drex and Darius are the perfect duo!

Story
Sweet Marcus is looking for his just right human to help his wounded heart heal completely…. Could it be you? Marcus is a stunningly handsome, 3 year old neutered tabico male. We wish he could tell us his story, but we’ve done our best to guess at it based on what his behaviors have told us. Marcus showed up at an established colony and was trapped for TNR. Upon interacting with him, volunteers suspected that he was not actually a feral cat, but definitely a very frightened boy. Marcus appeared to have been indoors at some point, but started out very flinchy whenever hands approached him. No one claimed him when a found report was filed, and our best guess is that this sweet, beautiful boy was abused, and abandoned. Despite his obvious fear, there was clearly something in Marcus that wanted to connect, and volunteers worked hard to win his trust. Marcus loves Churu treats, and would allow pets while eating the Churu. Eventually he relaxed more and more around people as he realized that he is finally safe, and that no one is going to hurt him again. Marcus interacts well with other cats, but would also be fine as an only kitty. We don’t know whether he’s been around dogs. Because Marcus is anxious, he will need a very calm and quiet home, without children. Marcus may never be a lap cat, but he does enjoy pets, and he will give you slow blinks to let you know he loves you. It’s important for potential adopters to understand that Marcus will need a great deal of time to settle in to a new environment and begin to connect to his new family. Everyone who knows him will tell you, he is so worth the investment! Marcus hasn’t yet decided whether he’s a fan of playing, but he loves cat trees with cozy hiding spots, as well as cozy beds for napping in. He eats both wet and dry food and he has a great appetite! And of course, he would like a family with a lifetime supply of Churu, as they are the key to his beautiful heart.
